Guiding Principles for Educators
The following principles guide our decisions in deciding what standards-based curriculum to teach.
# 1
We believe in transparency when communicating the goals and plans of our standards-aligned curriculum so that staff, students, and families develop a shared understanding of what is being taught and why.
# 2
We believe in implementing our curriculum with integrity so that students are taught what they are expected to learn, as defined by the standards.
# 3
We believe in treating students with dignity and respect by immersing them in grade-level curriculum because we believe every learner is capable of reaching high standards.
# 4
We believe in a diverse and equitable curriculum in which learners see themselves in what they are being taught (mirrors/identity) and feel valued, gain exposure to other cultures (windows) and actively engage in a curriculum that immerses them in these worlds (doors).
#5
We believe in a curriculum that provides opportunities for teamwork where students collaborate and feel a shared responsibility for one another as they work towards a common goal.
#6
We believe in reviewing and adopting high-quality, evidence-based curriculum materials to ensure every student has access to the courses, knowledge and skills they need to grow.
